POSITION TITLE

Speech-Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO

Building Principal and/or Director of Special Education

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides speech-language services to students experiencing challenges in language, speech, voice, or fluency that impact educational performance. Supports student learning through assessment, intervention, collaboration, and consultation with school staff and families. Services are designed to help students meet communication goals and access the general education curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct communication and hearing screenings and administer formal and informal speech-language assessments.
  • Collect and analyze diagnostic information from student records, staff, and families to determine communication needs and eligibility for services.
  • Develop and implement speech-language therapy plans aligned with student Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Provide evidence-based therapy services to individual students and small groups.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain documentation of services, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to coordinate speech-language services with classroom instruction and specialized programs.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, and other school personnel regarding student communication needs and strategies to support student success.
  • Prepare required documentation including evaluation reports, IEPs, and progress reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and resources necessary to support speech-language services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and school-related information in accordance with district policy and privacy laws.
  • Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Act as a mandatory reporter and immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law and district procedures.
  • Follow district policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Hold a valid Oregon license as a Speech-Language Pathologist or be eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Oregon.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of speech-language development, communication disorders, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field. Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families.
  • Ability to pass required background and fingerprint checks.

Preferred

  • Experience providing speech-language services in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and outside service providers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • School environment with frequent interaction with students and staff.
  • Work may occur in classrooms, therapy rooms, and other school settings.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, and assisting students as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Work year, wages, hours, and benefits are governed by the applicable licensed collective bargaining agreement.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful background and fingerprint clearance and maintenance of required licensure.
