SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

         Reports to: Building Principal and Special Education Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree required as appropriate for endorsement.
  2. Hold or be eligible to hold an Oregon Teaching Certificate.
  3. Hold appropriate endorsement(s).

 

Experience:

  1. Successful completion of student teaching/internship assignment.
  2. Previous experience in an educational setting desirable.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of content and teaching methods in area(s) of teaching assignment.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of developmental needs of students.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

(Resource, Self-contained, O/T, Speech/Language Specialists)

Instructional Diagnosis and Planning

  1. Assist in the identification and programming for handicapped students.
    1. Actively participate in the student review and special services process..
    2. After due process parental counseling, complete assessments which may result in the  identification of a handicap or specialized placement.
    3. Participate in the development of the Individual Educational Program (IEP).
  1. Plan instruction consistent with Individual Educational Program (IEP).
    1. Use approved or modified district curriculum and/or adapted curriculum.
    2. Use individual strategies and materials.
    3. Prescribe appropriate annual goals and short-term objectives.
    4. Translate Individual Educational Program (IEP) goals and objectives into instructional sequences.
  1. Provide ongoing consultation services.
    1. Assist staff in mainstreaming strategies.
    2. Assist staff in modifications of regular curriculum within the classroom.

    1. Design and use evaluation strategies relevant to learning objectives and subject matter. 
    2. Plan and implement evaluation processes for measurement of learning and continuous assessment.
    3. Revise instruction and plan objectives based on assessment of student outcomes.

 

  1. Communicate effectively student’s progress to student, parent/guardian, and staff.
    1. Communicate with learner about his/her needs and progress.
    2. Use district and special services reporting procedures.

Instructional Management

    3. Complete information necessary for the district special services data management system and as required by state and federal agencies.
  3. Assist in planning for appropriate use of assigned aides/volunteers.
    1. Plan activities to be implemented by aides/volunteers.
    2. Participate in team time schedules of aides/volunteers.
