BUSINESS MANAGER
Reports to Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree or Post secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, or other related field preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in accounting, auditing, financial management or related fields with experience in supervision and evaluation of personnel.
- Knowledge of accounting methods, practices, local budget law, Medicaid billing processes, Federal and State laws related to payroll, public purchasing laws and terminology used in finance and fund accounting.
- Demonstrated skills in computer systems using various programs. (i.e., Excel, Word, Infinite Visions Business Information System)
- Proficient and effective written and verbal skills including ability to respond effectively to verbal and written directions with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to exercise judgment and integrity on the job with the highest levels of confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to problem solve and act as a resource to internal and external staff
- Ability to read and comprehend complex technical language; research and interpret applicable state and federal laws;
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Possess strong interpersonal and public relations skills
- Leadership experience at school building, district, regional or state levels preferred.
- Must be bondable.

JOB GOAL
Assist the Superintendent/Clerk in directing the business affairs of the district to provide the best possible educational and administrative services utilizing the financial and human resources available. Efficiently and effectively oversee the operation of the business office.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position. Individual employees may perform all or some combination of the duties listed below as well as other related duties.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee and administer the business office operations and staff.
- Serve as Business Manager/Deputy Clerk.
- Assist the Superintendent in development of the annual budget, working closely with administrators and staff. Comply with all state budget laws.
- Assist with management of the budget upon adoption.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of financial statements, indirect cost allocation plan, excess cost calculations, and other reports as assigned in accordance with state and district standards, generally accepted accounting principles and applicable laws.
- Assist with the formulation of policies and procedures governing the financial relationships of constituent districts, governmental and private agencies.
- Work with administrators to reconcile revenue and expenditures; assist in budget preparation and management.
- Assist staff in purchasing, risk management and other areas as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Work with public relations along with the Superintendent.
- Responsible for preparation of all reports and records necessary for annual audit; coordinate with the auditors during the audit process and throughout the year.
- Review and recommend revision for internal controls and other procedural manuals as necessary and appropriate.
- Advise the Superintendent on investment of district funds.
- Serve as District Grant Manager and assign relevant tasks as appropriate.
- Perform non-routine duties requiring knowledge of district policies, district organization, district programs, district goals and ongoing district operations.
- Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials and facilities.
- Immediately report information regarding abuse of any kind to the appropriate administrator or social service agency
- Be responsible for district keys as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings and following schedules.
Other Functions:
- Maintain professional dress standards at all times.
- Ability to work collaboratively. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to use a computer and view a computer screen for prolonged periods of time to generate word processing
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to set up and use an efficient filing system.
- Ability to read small numbers/print on paper and on the computer screen.
- Ability to hear the telephone ring and to hear and respond to inquiries from visitors and callers.
- Ability to provide own transportation, as deemed necessary, including potential for offsite and overnight travel.
